Fire Escape Plan

Last night for Family Home Evening we went through a fire escape plan. We are using the Family Prepardness manuel that we got at church for some of our family nights. We decided that the family meeting place would be way out front next to our Jacaranda trees. Then, we went downstairs in the basement and had the boys open their window and try to climb up the window well ladder and push the cover up. It was not an easy task for them and we told them that they would probably never have to do it but we wanted them to be aware of where it was and what to do. Next, we had the girls open there window and learn how to get the screen off or if that didnt work to just kick it out. At the end we reviewed what to do and Jake asked, "Now where is our meeting spot?" and Kimball says "Go to the Jack O' Lantern trees!" Yes, go to the Jacaranda trees. It is nice to be having more consistent family home evenings again. When the girls were in gymnastics we were not very good at getting it done. Now, the kids look forward to it and are taking part in planning the lessons, music and treats.

I loved reading about your FHE. I always like hearing about what other families are doing in theirs. We did a fire escape plan about a year ago and it went really well too. We told the kids to meet at the chicken coop. It was hard for my kids to open their windows too. We explained that if they couldn't get them open they should throw a toy at it to break the window and then put a blanket over it so they wouldn't get cut. I'm glad we don't have a window well to climb out of.

Ok, I must say that when we do our FHE fire escape plan I panic for like a week afterwards thinking something bad is going to happen... I love Kimball- they will forever be referred to as jack o lantern trees.

I'm with Shelli "Oh yah about that great book". It does feel good when you are being obedient. Life certainly does try to thwart our best efforts!
